Liposuction

Liposuction is a relatively simple and safe procedure, available for both men and women. It consists of the removal of localized pockets of fat in specific areas of the body. Sedated yet awake, the patient may leave the Centre shortly after the procedure.

Liposuction can help areas such as the chin, abdomen, buttocks, hips and knees. It is not an alternative to weight loss but consists of a method to reshape the body and remove fatty deposits that do not seem to respond to diets and exercise.

The greatest advancement in liposuction is the reduction in size of cannulas, which are tube-like instruments used in the suction of fat. A cannula is inserted in a tiny incision in the area in question, and, compared to its predecessor, is relatively smaller. Consequently, the result is a reduction in the potential risks and the facilitation of the scarring process.

Furthermore, two newer techniques introduced, including tumescence (wet liposuction) and power assisted liposuccion help to liquefy the fat before its removal. These techniques are wonderful tools in removing fat from fibrous areas of the body that normally cannot be removed with traditional liposuction.
